Follow The Money

Van Mensvoort
January 12th 2010

If you happen to be in the neighborhood, you may want to attend the lecture I will be throwing at the Follow the Money – The database as a narrative form conference this Thursday 14-01-2010 at The Balie in Amsterdam.

I promised to talk about money as an ancient form of virtual reality and look at various payment media in which money has appeared – from stock cattle to ancient Chinese spade money and African mobile calling credit to virtual cash in Second Life and eco-money in South America. Rest a sure that the whole thing will be draped in Next Nature thinking.

Yes, the event will be streamed.

Should men be able to give birth to children?

Koert van Mensvoort: Is the artificial womb frankenstein-like symbol of (male) engineers trying to steal the magical womb from women? Or… is it a feminist project and needed to reach through equality between the sexes? I personally lean towards the latter. To me it feels like progress if a girl can tell a guy to carry the womb for a change.
