Get ready, a new generation of robots is going to invade our lives! The invention of intelligent machines able to learn independently and to perform various tasks is no longer a dream (or a nightmare).

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak recently said that, thanks to the Internet of Things, in the future robots will become masters of the planet and they will make humans into their pets. “It’s actually going to turn out really good for humans” Wozniak told during the Freescale Technology Forum 2015. “Robots will be so smart by then that they’ll know they have to keep nature, and humans are part of nature. So I got over my fear that we’d be replaced by computers. They’re going to help us”.

Let’s have a look into the last robotic advancements; here some examples of how robots are going to take care of us.

1. The chef

chefThey already clean the house and mow the lawn, but now robots can also cook Michelin star food in your kitchen. The Robo-Chef, manufactured by Shadow Robot, is no more than a pair of arms incorporated with 129 sensors, 24 joints and 20 motors. It learned to cook by mimicking the world’s best chefs and turning the tasks into commands to drive the hands. It is set to go on sale in 2017.

2. The companion

This Japanese robot by Aldebaran “has a real personality conveyed by his body language, his funny gestures and his voice”. Pepper is already greeting and interacting with customers in some stores in Japan.

3. The soldier

soldierIn the future drones and cyborgs will fight our battles. US Army is exploring the possibility to replace human soldiers with humanoid robots. They developed Atlas a 1,90 meters robot designed to go where humans cannot survive, for disaster response, such as nuclear and chemical incidents. Atlas has no weapons and it has been described as “one of the most advanced humanoid robots ever built”.

4. The lover

In addition to the features of her predecessor, RealBotix has a comprehensive AI, the power of communication, the ability to move and talk dirty.

5. The nurse

This Japanese bear-shaped nursing robot is able to lift patients from beds into wheelchairs and help them to stand up, promising “powerful yet gentle care” for the elderly. Robear remains a research project for now, as its creators are still the robot’s technology.

6. The personal shopper
