The New Era of Tourism is Underwater

Sleeping underwater has always been your dream? Thanks to an ambitious project it will soon be a reality. Its name is Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel and it is the first entirely underwater hotel in the world. The plan recently received patent approval in the US and construction works are starting now.

The structure will be built and classified as a vessel, since it will be able to move from a place to another while safely remaining in a pod, equipped with WiFi and all the commodities of a luxury hotel.

This project is very ambitious, the aim is to provide a boutique hotel offering a unique view to its guests at 8.5 m below the water surface. Its size is unusual and enormous, in fact the structure will be firstly built and tested in Key West, Florida, but it'll be soon able to move to other destinations to fully enjoy the outstanding submarine biodiversity and the touristic demands (Egypt, Malaysia, Hawaii and the Bahamas are the possible locations).

The submarine hotel will, however, be able to move in case of need, for instance in the event of hurricanes, thanks to an advanced technologic propulsion system. This 12-rooms structure will cost about 20 M $ and booking a night in one of the exclusive pods could cost nearly 5000 $ per night. The designer of the hotel, Tom Webb, says this facility won't affect the surrounding marine ecosystem and adds: "Meanwhile, the philanthropic goal is to give back to the planetary community through Biorock coral reef restoration of the world's endangered coral reefs".

Should men be able to give birth to children?

Joyce Nabuurs: To me this question seems to be a logical next step in the emancipation movement of the past century. More and more women entered the workspace, but the responsibility for pregnancy and childrearing remained female.
