‘Robotisation', ‘Robots taking our jobs’, ‘Human replaced by a machine’ is what we often read in the newspapers. Whereas news items mainly focus on robots taking our jobs, we would like to show to other side of the same story. Empowered by Robots is a congress during the Dutch Design Week that explores the optimistic side of future employment. Besides that, Koert van Mensvoort has an exciting announcement to make.

The program was initiated by Staf Depla, Jos Verhoeven and Koert van Mensvoort. Staf Depla is alderman on employment, economy and career education of the City of Eindhoven. Jos Verhoeven from Start Foundation brings disadvantaged people on to labor market in the Netherlands.

Most exciting of this event might be the announcement of Next Nature Network director Koert van Mensvoort. During the conference he will launch an open call to designers and technology lovers to design the job of the future. The best submissions will be shown at Dutch Design Week 2017.

To get inspired we invited three speakers. Arno Stienen, Professor of robotics at Northwestern University of Chicago, who will explain what robotics can do in our daily work. Philosopher Jos de Mul from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam contemplates how it's like to meet a robot at the coffee machine, and last but not least, we discuss how new forms of technology ask for creative thinkers, therefore designer Govert Flint hits the stage.

The conference takes place on the 25th of October in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven. We hope to see you there!

Should men be able to give birth to children?

Koert van Mensvoort: Is the artificial womb frankenstein-like symbol of (male) engineers trying to steal the magical womb from women? Or… is it a feminist project and needed to reach through equality between the sexes? I personally lean towards the latter. To me it feels like progress if a girl can tell a guy to carry the womb for a change.
