For centuries artists painted trees and clouds because that is what they saw around them, nowadays they remix brands and logo's because that is what surrounds them. A city child washes her hair with pine-scented shampoo. Walking in the forest with her father one day, she says, "Daddy, the woods smell of shampoo." Surely, young children nowadays perform better at discriminating corporate logo's than at tree- or bird species.

'Landscape' is a painting by Helmut Smits, 180x132 cm, wood, canvas, acryl, 2005. Unmistakably(?) a quick and dirty ripoff of the nextnature corporate jungle background pattern by Karl Grandin. Nonetheless, peculiar image of the week.
