What will the human race look like in 1, 2, 3, 4 million years? Will it be one human race? Will there be a human race? Impressions of future scenario's must come from scientists, sometimes in collaboration with artists, sometimes only by artists. Though artists often seem to be more inspired by fiction than science; can it be these images are adding up to a mechanism we call self fulfilling prophecy? Evolution?

  • The post is irronic enough, I was only dissing the artists impressions at MSNBC. Of course, the homo destopus I presented a few years ago was a 100% ironic, thats why I wondered whether this is a joke as well. :-) Surely the posthuman discussion is nextnature related so we could use more posts on this topic.

Hey, I agree with you Koert. Nevertheless I think this topic -and its comments- could be about these fantasies. Let's gather more of these 'escapisms' and give them a place next to the other 'natures'. A few years back -I remember- you yourself visualized a small man with one big eye and a mouse-claw. I think it will fit perfectly in this topic. ;) - http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/pressAndInformationOffice/newsAndEvents/archives/2006/Oliver_Curry.htm - http://www.hodgeslab.org/2006/10/human_evolution_predicting_evo.html - http://www.onset.unsw.edu.au/issue6/darwin_pt2/darwin_pt2.html - http://www.onset.unsw.edu.au/issue6/darwin_pt2/Evolution.wav -

  • They must be kidding?! I find these future human scenario’s utterly thin. The depicted development is totally ad hoc. Cyborgs in 4 million years? Ha ha! Have the authors ever considered the idea that we –in many ways- already are cyborgs? Although these scenario’s might look imaginary at first hand, I feel they in fact, suffer from a lack of imagination. A problem we tend to meet more often within the posthuman movement. Childish fantasies escapism. Now, what the f*ck should I wear TODAY?
