giant lego man A giant, smiling Lego man has been fished out of the sea in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort. Workers at a drinks stall rescued the 2.5-metre tall model. "We saw something bobbing about in the sea and we decided to take it out of the water," said a stall worker. "It was a life-sized Lego toy." A woman nearby added: "I saw the Lego toy floating towards the beach from the direction of England." The toy was later placed in front of the drinks stall. The mysterious Lego man has a slogan on his shirt reading: "NO REAL THAN YOU ARE". Source: Reuters.

Some disturbing quotes from the BESTLIFE magazine: “Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.” (Andy Warhol); "Oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeyer, Ph.D., an expert on marine debris, agrees. “If you could fast-forward 10,000 years and do an archaeological dig…you’d find a little line of plastic,” he told The Seattle Times last April. “What happened to those people? Well, they ate their own plastic and disrupted their genetic structure and weren’t able to reproduce. They didn’t last very long because they killed themselves."; "Plastic never really goes away"; "Every bit of plastic ever made still exists"; Conclusion: the Next Nature involves a plastic–coated planet where nurdles and floatees continuously toxicate life. And life is a suïcidal process, but luckily we have Andy to blame for it.

  • Here is another story about plastic in the ocean. I am afraid it is not as amusing as the one about the mysterious Lego man: Our oceans are turning into plastic...are we? http://www.bestlifeonline.com/cms/publish/health-fitness/Our_oceans_are_turning_into_plastic_are_we_2_printer.shtml
