Remember the Gameboy Bricks by Gijs Gieskes? The same vibe must have been picked up by Christopher Locke (Chicago, US) as he opened his Modern Fossils Shop with many more peculiar specimens.

"The modern Fossils are made from actual archaic technology that was once cutting–edge. Most of these examples were discovered in the United States, although the various species are represented all over the world. It is sad, but most of these units lived very short lives. Most people attribute the shortened lifespan to aggressive predators or accelerated evolution, but this is not necessarily true. It has been shown recently that the true demise of most of these specimens came from runaway consumerism and wastefulness at the high end of the food chain."fossil nintendo

"In a special process, these items are reproduced in a proprietary blend of concrete and other secret ingredients, giving them the look and feel of real stone fossils. Each fossil is made one at a time, by hand, in an individual mold. Because of the hand-made nature of the item, there will be variations in pigmentation, and small imperfections in the surface. While you can choose a general color range, please keep in mind that each fossil is unique, and color variations are inevitable."

  • Wow. I CANNOT believe people are arguing over this. These are pieces of art. Art that is handmade. Art that says something about our society. These are not fossils. Please just enjoy them for what they are and stop bickering.

  • Hey everyone! Thanks for looking! I know the big fad these days is for everyone to assume everything is photoshopped. But these are, in fact, actual items. If they were photoshopped, I couldn't sell them on my website (and I DO sell them on my website). I appreciate all the comments, and thank you for your time.

  • Many types of fossils in the world and on the net. Perhaps the discussion should not be about whether they are photoshopped or 'real', but rather about documenting media and contents (see Koerts comment above). All we are typing here will one day be gone (or?). How would / could we leave traces of current or past technology to future offspring? <img src="https://nextnature.net/research/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/fossil_amonite.jpg" alt="fossil" width="530" height="443"/>

  • @Ken: Did you not read the quoted text after the last picture? If not, here it is...“In a special process, these items are reproduced in a proprietary blend of concrete and other secret ingredients, giving them the look and feel of real stone fossils. Each fossil is made one at a time, by hand, in an individual mold. Because of the hand-made nature of the item, there will be variations in pigmentation, and small imperfections in the surface. I also found this on Stumbleupon.

OMG IDIOTS! you think using big words like sedimentary will strengthen your argument and presumptous claims which hold no more basis in fact than every lie ever written by such unqualified self confessed experts. FYI Nathan is correct in assuming that there would be no raised detail. Fossils are completely two dimensional entities which gives them the property of being ferromagnetic and superconductive. THAT'S RIGHT your dead granparents and grandmas are now magnets that carry an awful lot of current whilst at the same time offering low resistance to that current meaning that these fossils are surely not living entites as we all know cassettes didnt exist in roman times, and this rock looks like it has obviously been scientifically dated to roman times. Thank You Nathan for defending the truth, these are no better than fakes bought at a trinkets store in a 3rd world country.

  • Actually no, Nathan, you're wrong. Fossils are not 'internal,' as you claim. Fossils are encased in sedimentary rock; the rock is broken/brushed away to reveal the fossil inside. it is 'molds' or 'casts' that you're referring to. Besides, they're obviously photoshopped. I would know, I've seen a few photoshops in my day. The shadows are all pixelated.

  • @ Nathan: Have you ever actually seen a fossile Nathan? Fossiles come in many forms. These are supposed to be the preserved ones (turned to stone over the centuries), not the imprinted ones.

    Posted on

  • Oops you got us Nathan, it must be a fake then!? These fossils must have been deliberately created to catalyze a debate on the evolutionary development of consumer products, no?

    Posted on

  • I'm sorry to be the one to point it out, but if these were supposed to be fossils, the imprint would be internal...not raised like these. Fantastic article, though!

  • Good collection of fossils. I hope someone manages to retrieve some data from that hard drive. Yes, our era could very well be the worst documented period in human history.
