Revital Cohen and Tuur van Balen created an artificial mineral made of technological artifacts. To produce it they deconstructed devices, such as computers, recovering the valuable materials.

"Precious metals and stones are mined from technological objects and transformed back into mineral form. The artefacts were all sourced from a recently bankrupt factory and include tools, machinery and computers.

The artificial ore, made of gold (Au), copper (Cu), tantalum (Ta) and aluminium (Al), speaks of the provenance of technological artefacts and the value of labour. "

Cohen and van Balen have a really poetic way of showing the tension and entanglement between technology and nature. Their work is always a result of extensive research.

The website where the two artists showcase their work is definitely worth a visit.
