Before fully autonomous cars take over our streets, we may experience a transition phase: Fasten your seatbelts, as Nissan introduced a so-called Brain to Vehicle (B2V) system to interpret brain-wave activity. That's right, mind-controlling your car.

When thinking about autonomous driving, you may envision a driverless taxi fare. It's unpersonal and functions as a means to get you somewhere. But for many, the driving experience is much more than transportation. It can be fun, relaxing and exciting.

So while fully autonomous vehicles could reduce traffic accidents and provide mobile independence, some might argue that the personal thrill will be gone.

A "magical" intermediary between driver and vehicle could provide this personalization of the drive. And that's exactly what Nissan is aiming for.

The B2V system creates an intimate connection, rather literally, by embedding sensors on the drivers' head. It can anticipate on actions by analyzing the intention of the driver and executing that action just before the driver would have.

The cars equipped with B2V technology are being tested at current, and still roll out with steering wheels. But soon, they might not be an integral part of a car anymore. Because after all, in the future, who needs a stearing wheel anyway?
