If we will ever make a home on the Moon we could easily communicate with our terrestrial friends, check our Facebook, or share an Instagram picture. A team of researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and NASA proved how wireless broadband connection works in space. Through a laser-based data communication technology it may be possible to provide the Moon with the connectivity we have on Earth. “Communicating at high data rates from Earth to the moon with laser beams is challenging because of the 400,000-kilometer distance spreading out the light beam” explained Mark Stevens of MIT Lincoln Laboratory. “It's doubly difficult going through the atmosphere, because turbulence can bend light, causing rapid fading or dropouts of the signal at the receiver.” Establishing a wireless connection between our planet and our satellite could enable large data transfer and high-definition video streaming on the lunar surface.
